What the wrong sales were

## Best Offer prices that were not the product

Some of the Best Offer sales CompsAPI returned, and what they actually were:

| Search | Sold for | What it was |
| --- | --- | --- |
| airpods max | $24.07 | a 20,000 mAh power bank |
| airpods max | $10.06 | a 20W USB-C power adapter |
| garmin fenix 7 | $915.00 | a Fenix 9 Pro, a different watch |
| lego 75192 millennium falcon | $55.00 | the empty box only |
| lego 75192 millennium falcon | $40.00 | the instruction manual only |
| 2003 topps chrome lebron james rookie | $4.68 | a pack of MLB baseball cards |
| tudor black bay 58 | $38.14 | one bracelet link and pin |
| nintendo switch oled | $12.00 | the retail box packaging only |

Why this changes the price

A Best Offer price is only useful if it is the price of the item you are pricing. A $10 adapter or a $55 empty box counted as an “AirPods Max” or “Lego 75192” Best Offer drags any average or median far below what the product really sells for.

Who returns the paid price

## Does the API return what the buyer paid?

On an accepted Best Offer, eBay's sold listing shows the asking price, struck through. Only some APIs return the price the buyer actually paid. In the same searches:

| API | Returns the accepted price |
| --- | --- |
| CompSniper | Yes, on every sale in its 3-year sold history |
| CompsAPI | Yes, on its Best Offer sales |
| SoldComps | Rarely: 24 of 442 accepted-offer sales (5%) in the same searches |
| Trawl | No: it reports whether a listing accepted offers, not the price paid |

How we tested

## Every Best Offer sale checked on eBay

- **Same searches, same day.** 12 searches across trading cards, phones, consoles, sneakers, watches, headphones and Lego were sent to both APIs on November 5, 2026, for sales from the last 7 days on ebay.com.
- **Each API at its best.** CompSniper with its cleanup on. CompsAPI with Best Offer prices on, run both with its junk filter on and with its default settings.
- **Right product, rules first.** For each search, what counts as the right product was written as title rules before scoring and applied identically to both APIs. A console sold with a case counts as the console; a case on its own does not.
- **Real Best Offer, checked on eBay.** All 262 listings either API labeled as a Best Offer sale were opened on eBay. A sale counts as a real accepted offer when the page says “Best offer accepted”, or when the single sale's paid price is below the listing price shown on that page.
- **Scored only when checkable.** Sales whose listing page could not be read, or whose title was missing, are left out of the rates.
- **Not scored:** how many Best Offer sales each API finds. This benchmark measures whether the Best Offer prices an API returns can be trusted.

FAQ

## Questions about this benchmark

### Which eBay API gives the most accurate Best Offer prices?

In this November 2026 benchmark, 95.1% of the Best Offer sales CompSniper returned were the right product at a real accepted offer price, against 84.8% for CompsAPI (with its junk filter on). Among the Best Offer sales each API returned, 3.5% of CompSniper's were a different product, against 14.9% of CompsAPI's.

### Why does the Best Offer price matter?

When a seller accepts a Best Offer, eBay's sold listing still shows the original asking price. The buyer usually paid less. A price check built on asking prices overstates what items really sell for, so the accepted price is the number that matters for comps.

### What counted as a correct Best Offer sale?

Two things had to be true. It had to be the product that was searched for (not an accessory, part, empty box, manual or a different model), using title rules written for each search before scoring and applied the same way to both APIs. And it had to be a real accepted Best Offer, confirmed on eBay's own listing page: either the page says "Best offer accepted", or the single sale's paid price is below the listing price shown there.

### How were the APIs tested?

The same 12 searches, covering cards, phones, consoles, sneakers, watches, headphones and Lego, were sent to both APIs on November 5, 2026 for sales from the last 7 days. Each API's Best Offer sales were collected and every one was checked on its eBay listing page, 262 listings in total.

### Does CompSniper return the price the buyer actually paid?

Yes. CompSniper's sold history returns the price the buyer paid on every sale, including accepted Best Offers, for up to 3 years back, and sold searches can add the accepted offer price with bestOfferPrice=true.
