Install the CompSniper MCP connector

CompSniper MCP gives an AI client access to real completed eBay sales, cleaned price summaries, marketplace comparisons, account usage, and deeper Max Mode research.

Prerequisites

For the recommended hosted connection, you need:

• A client that supports remote Streamable HTTP MCP servers and OAuth.
• A free CompSniper account. You can create it during the connection flow.
• No Node.js installation.
• No API key to copy or paste.

The hosted server URL is:

https://mcp.compsniper.com/mcp

Your client opens CompSniper sign-in and OAuth consent. After approval, the client uses your CompSniper account and monthly quota. Your password and API keys are never shared with the client.

Claude Code

Add CompSniper for every project on your machine:

Start Claude Code and confirm the connection:

For one project only, replace --scope user with --scope local. Claude Code stores OAuth credentials and refreshes them automatically. No COMPSNIPER_API_KEY environment variable is needed for this hosted connection.

Codex CLI and Codex IDE extension

Add the remote server, complete OAuth, and confirm it is registered:

Inside the Codex terminal interface, use /mcp to see the connected server and its tools. Codex CLI, the Codex IDE extension, and the ChatGPT desktop app share MCP configuration for the same Codex host.

You can also configure the server directly in ~/.codex/config.toml:

Claude and Claude Desktop

CompSniper is published in the Claude Connectors Directory. This remote connection works across Claude web, Claude Desktop, mobile, and other Claude surfaces connected to the same account.

1. Open the CompSniper directory listing and choose Connect.
2. Sign in to CompSniper, or create a free account.
3. Review the requested permissions and approve the connection.
4. In a conversation, open the + menu, select Connectors, and enable CompSniper.

For a manual remote connection, open Customize > Connectors, choose Add custom connector, and paste:

On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner may need to add or allow the connector before members can connect.

ChatGPT desktop app

1. Open Settings > MCP servers.
2. Choose Add server.
3. Name it CompSniper and choose Streamable HTTP.
4. Paste https://mcp.compsniper.com/mcp and save.
5. Restart the app when prompted.
6. Select Authenticate beside CompSniper and complete sign-in.
7. Type /mcp in the composer to confirm the tools are connected.

ChatGPT web

The public CompSniper ChatGPT plugin has been submitted and is awaiting directory review. Once it is published, normal users will install it from the Plugins tab and complete CompSniper OAuth.

For eligible developer-mode testing:

1. Open Settings > Security and login and enable Developer mode.
2. Open the Plugins page and select the + button.
3. Enter CompSniper as the name.
4. Use this public MCP endpoint:

5. Create the connection, review the discovered tools, and complete CompSniper sign-in.
6. Start a new chat and add CompSniper from the tools menu.

Developer-mode availability depends on the account and workspace policy. ChatGPT web does not read your local Codex config.toml.

Cursor

Use the Install in Cursor button above, or create ~/.cursor/mcp.json for a global connection:

For a project-only connection, place the same configuration in .cursor/mcp.json. Save the file, restart or refresh Cursor's MCP servers, and complete the OAuth prompt. CompSniper then appears under available tools in Agent chat.

Open the Command Palette and run MCP: List Servers to start, authenticate, inspect tools, or open the MCP output log. Use MCP: Open User Configuration instead if you want CompSniper available in every workspace.

Windsurf

Open Windsurf Settings > Cascade > MCP Servers. Choose Add Server, or open the raw mcp_config.json and add:

Refresh the MCP list and complete OAuth when Windsurf prompts you. Windsurf supports Streamable HTTP and OAuth for remote servers. Enterprise administrators may need to enable MCP access first.

Other remote MCP clients

Use these connection values:

The client must support OAuth discovery and a browser-based sign-in flow. If it asks for a bearer token before trying OAuth, leave that field empty and choose OAuth or Authenticate.

Local npm connection

Use the local stdio package only when your client cannot connect to a remote Streamable HTTP server or when you specifically want API-key authentication. This path requires Node.js 20 or newer and a CompSniper API key.

Keep the key in an environment variable or untracked local configuration. Do not commit a live key.

Confirm the connection

Try this after authentication:

Search completed eBay sales for a used Shure SM7B, remove irrelevant accessories, and show the median, realistic range, and sample size.

A working connection should expose sold search, active-listing search, cleaned summaries, product and marketplace comparison, account usage, service health, and Max Mode tools.

Troubleshooting

The client says authentication is required

Choose Authenticate, run the client's MCP login command, or open its MCP management panel. Do not add an API key header to the hosted URL.

The browser sign-in completed but the server is still disconnected

Restart or refresh the client's MCP server list. In CLI clients, run the MCP list command and repeat the OAuth login once. Confirm the configured URL ends in /mcp.

The client expects a command instead of a URL

The client is probably creating a local stdio server. Choose an HTTP or remote-server option. If the client has no remote HTTP support, use the local npm configuration above.

The tools do not appear in chat

Enable CompSniper in the conversation's tools or connectors menu. Some clients discover a server but leave its tools disabled until you approve them.

Sold search, price-summary, product-comparison, marketplace-comparison, and Max Mode tools accept the optional exactMatch boolean. It defaults to false. Set it to true when the agent should exclude eBay's explicit Results matching fewer words section before CompSniper runs its normal relevance checks.

The same search and comparison tools accept aspectFilter as an object of human-readable eBay facet names and sellerType as private or business. Seller type applies only to ebay.de, ebay.fr, ebay.it, and ebay.es.

Use search_active_listings when the user asks what sellers are currently asking, how many watchers or units sold are visible, whether offers are accepted, or how much time remains on an auction. This tool does not present asking prices as completed-sale price intelligence.

Use search_poshmark_sold for public Poshmark sold listings and search_mercari_listings for Mercari sold or active listings. These tools use native marketplace fields and do not require the user to provide a Poshmark or Mercari account.
